Welcome Home

Each day, I see it on the church sign

Service starts at 8 am

And I swear this time, I'll make it

But life happens and I miss the service once again

This time, somehow I made it

I'm the stranger in the back row pew

And as I knelt down on my knees to pray

I wondered what I'd say to you

I'm just a figure standing in the distance

Been gone one month, maybe several years

I've made a lifetime of excuses

Then you said the words I longed to hear

Welcome home, my faithful servant

Welcome home, my wayward son

Yeah, I know it's been a long time

Here's some grace, yeah, here's some love

Take this bread, it is my body

Take this wine, it is my blood

Welcome home, my faithful servant

Welcome home, my wayward son

The man asked, "Lord, who is my neighbor?"

And I've been wondering much the same

It doesn't matter how we look outside

We all carry scars and shame

So to the lost and the forgotten

To the devout and to the saved

His arms, they stand wide open

And his message is the same

Welcome home, my faithful servants

Welcome home, my wayward ones

Yeah, I know it's been a long time

Here's some grace, yeah, here's some love

Take this bread, it is my body

Take this wine, it is my blood

Welcome home, my faithful servants

Welcome home, my wayward ones
