A Legacy Of Global Scorning
We faithfully followed fickle men
with hearts as gold as greed
they seemed soothingly familiar though
shattered fragments of that half-forgotten dream
They promised us tomorrows
but then they sold us yesterdays
They mortgaged off our golden years
then like dust and ash they blew away
Like all of us, the world is dying
but there's nothing that they'll do
and if it doesn't mean that much to us
we'll just hand it down to you
So ask yourself -- what would it matter
if one should die or millions
if you were one of the millions
or the only one
Now heed your wise men
go and ask them; hear what they say
You may get an honest answer
but not today
Can't somebody please tell me then
what's the use
I don't know the answers
but I know nobody's telling the truth
